Independent Medical Legal Reviews

Law Library

Independent Radiological Evaluations:
Independent Radiological Evaluations (IRE's) render impartial opinions to help determine cash, medical, and/or rehabilitation benefits for claim's cases.

Riverside Radiology Associates can provide you, your doctors or clients with primary imaging tests or, over-reads/second opinions, education or expert trial testimony and back-up in workers' comp, personal injury, and other dispute forums. Independent diagnostic imaging evaluations provide objective findings that can help support your claims and successfully limit or settle your case with the opposing attorney, mediator, arbitrator or jury.

Benefits of Riverside Radiology Associates Independent Radiological Evaluations

All over-reads are performed by a Board Certified Fellowship trained sub-specialty Radiologist. That means a cervical spine injury is read by a Musculoskeletal Radiologist such as Doug Reader MD or Harte MacLaughlin MD. Your second opinion will not be read by a general radiologist.

For Defense Attorneys:
Objective second opinions can limit a claim. Objective imaging tests can be helpful in limiting claims of subjective complaints to soft tissue injury. Sometimes imaging tests can be helpful at dating processes, although this is often more difficult and subjective. Imaging reports that are initially read by a non-sub-specialized radiologist or general practitioner can sometimes be inaccurate. Why should your client be paying a claim for a herniated disc when none exists objectively on imaging studies? There are some image interpreters who are poorly trained or who misinterpret findings. Quality control issues and abuse of the process can all be helped by a competent review. So often imaging studies are of inadequate quality or the interpretation is based upon artifact rather than real findings. Second opinions are often useful in those cases in which significant dollars are at stake or in which there is a question as to whether or not the findings are real and may have a justification for pursuit by the opposite party. Thus, a second opinion or even primary imaging study by Riverside Radiology Associates may be useful in determining the presence or absence of visually obvious findings or disease. The absence of such findings speaks against a significant claim. The presence of a significant finding may be helpful in trying to settle the claim sooner rather than later.

Riverside Radiology Associates physicians have had experience reading tens of thousands of imaging studies especially on people involved in acute and chronic trauma of the spine and joints. RRA also has vast experience in the interpretation of chest x-rays and CT scans on individuals exposed to industrial dusts and fibers, such as asbestos. In most cases it is beneficial to the defense to get a second opinion or if necessary a primary imaging study to try to resolve the issues at hand earlier rather than later. We welcome your request and participation with our office.

For Plaintiff Attorneys:
Objective second opinions can support a claim.
