Who are Interventional Radiologists?
Interventional Radiologists are medical doctors who have specialized in doing medical procedures that involve radiology. Radiologists use imaging equipment such as X-rays, Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) to diagnose disease. Interventional Radiologists are board certified radiologists that are fellowship trained in percutaneous interventions using image guidance. The American Board of Medical Specialties certifies their specialized training.
What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiologists (IRs) use their expertise in utilizing X-rays, ultrasound and other medical imaging to guide small instruments such as catheters (tubes that measure just a few millimeters in diameter) through the blood vessels or other pathways to treat disease percutaneously (through the skin). These procedures are typically much less invasive and much less costly than traditional surgery.

Preparing for your First Appointment
When you schedule your first appointment, our staff may ask about the nature of your problem and your physician's arrangements for your care.
We will also need all medical records related to your condition at the time of your first visit including any X-rays. This also includes CT and MRI studies completed. If you need to obtain X-rays or records from a doctor other than the physician who referred you to our practice, please have these sent or bring to us at your appointment.
It is also very important for our medical staff to know exactly what medications you take, any known drug allergies and surgery history. Please bring this information to your first appointment. It is helpful to have this written down.
It is vital for you to understand your treatment plan, so we encourage questions. Before you come in, we suggest that you take a moment to write down any questions you want to ask your physician.
When you register at our office, our staff will ask for you to provide current insurance coverage and current address/demographic information.
We ask for at least 24 hours notice when you need to cancel or change your appointment. This gives us the opportunity to give an appointment to a patient with an urgent need. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment.
Please call immediately if you are unable to keep your scheduled appointments, if you do not contact us you will be considered a No Show. After 2 No Show appointments, you may be charged $50.00 which is not billable to your insurance. After 3 No Show appointments, we reserve the right to discharge you from our practice.
It is the patient's responsibility to check their medications on a regular basis and make certain they have enough medication. Patients must obtain refills at their scheduled office visit or procedure. If it is necessary to refill a prescription between visits the patient must call the office with the prescription information and pharmacy name and number. It may take up to 24 hours to process a prescription refill. Please be aware that if you have not been seen recently in the past month and you do not have any future appointments, your prescription refill may be denied. You may be referred to your Primary Care Physician.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.
After hour phone calls to our office will go to voice mail to be answered on the next business day.
If you require one of our physicians after hours, please call Riverside Radiology Department at 614-566-5253 and ask for the Interventional Radiologist on call. Please be aware that the physicians may be busy with patients and it may take some time before they are able to return a call.
